This N Scale layout represents part of the paired track operations of the Southern Pacific and Western Pacific railroads between Winnemucca and Carlin, Nevada. I operate this layout in three different eras switching between eras every few months. This allows me to run a variety of equipment. The eras are between 1975 and 1982 (SP & WP), 1983 and 1988 (SP & UP), and 1989 and 1996 (DRGW/SP & UP).
This is a fairly accurate drawing of the layout as it is in January 2022. This drawing will be revised as the layout progress continues. The layout started in the fall of 2014 with the staging yard and each year or so another section has been added. Besides what is seen in this drawing, there is staging below the section named Carlin and above the section named Weso which are accessed by a pair of double helixes.
- DCC control with 11 power districts using PSX circuit breakers.
- DCC system is Digitrax DB150 with wireless control using IR and Wi-Fi.
- Track on the layout is Micro Engineering code 55.
- Track in staging and helixes is combination of Atlas and Peco code 80.
- Mainline run over the whole layout including helixes and staging is 12.7 scale miles.
- There are 25 Fasttracks #6 code 55 turnouts on the layout.
- There are 20 Peco #6 turnouts in the staging yards.
- 20 turnouts are motorized with Tortoise, 5 with MP5, and 20 are manual push / pull rods.
- Working 2 aspect signaling on the main line.
